The novel depicts a Utopian society set in AF 632. The world has come to be developed through the use of advanced science and technology. The reproductive technology, genetic engineering and sleep-teaching should be used in this respect. In this society warfare and poverty have been eliminated. Everyone is made permanently happy. But the irony is that the happiness has been achieved at the cost of art, literature, scientific search for truth, religion and philosophy is usually highly valued in human life. This new society is based on science and technology. It is a hedonistic society. It derives happiness and pleasure of life from promiscuous sex and drug use. Among the drugs, the use of soma, is common. Soma is a powerful drug taken to escape pain and bad memories through hallucinatory fantasies. Besides, social stability has been achieved and maintained through deliberately engineered and rapidly enforced social stratification.
